Think for a moment about whatyou had for breakfast this morning.

If you skipped breakfast—just thinkabout the last meal you ate.

Getting that food to you was amiracle of human effort.

From growingit, to processing it,to packaging it, to delivering it to the storewhere you bought it, to sellingit to you.

There were hundreds of businesses working together behindthe scenes to make your breakfast happen.

The same thing is true for everythingwe do.

We live in a world that’s created by businesses.

From the food we eat, to the clothes we wear, the places we live, the transportation we ride, the medicine we take, and the entertainment we enjoy.

For the most part, we take that for granted, don’t we? I know I do.

That work happens “behind the scenes”. It’s mostly invisible to us.

But whether or not you consider yourself to be a “businessperson”,

Living and thriving in today’sworld—requires that you have an understandingof what businessesare and how theywork.

Welcome to “Whatis Business?”

Our course on the fundamentals.

I’m MichaelMegalli,

I’m the founder of indie.biz

And I’ll be teaching this class.

Not everyone needs a businessdegree,

but everyoneneeds to understand the basics.

To have some knowledge—some understanding—ofwhat businesses are and howthey work.

Basic business literacy is basicliteracy.

Let me put that a different way:

If you don’t have an understandingof business, it’s like not knowing how to readand write.

Or not speaking the primary languageof the place you live.

And business isa language. Think of it as the language ofopportunity.

We live in a timeof tremendous change.

It can be stressful, worrying about that changeand what it will mean for ourselves and our families.

But the best way to address thosefears is to learn how toadapt.

To learn how you can change in order to meet changing realities.

That’s what successfulbusinesses and entrepreneurs do.

They keepan eye on changing realities and then they strategically shift to meet those changes.

I hope this class becomes your first step to thinkingand acting more strategically.

That by having a clearer understanding of what business is and how business works, that you start to think a little more like a businessperson.

To seethe need for change so that you can seizethe new opportunities that change makes possible.

Understanding the way that businessworks—is the firststep.

Most of the time business ideas come with a lot of jargon. A lot of BS.

We’re going to do things a little differently…

We are going to break the core ideas down to theiressence.

We’re going to simplify them and explain themin plain English.

We’re going to make them easy to understand so that they’rehard to forget.

But more importantly—we’re going to make them practical.

To make them useable.

If you stick with it, you’ll come awayfrom this course with ideas youare going to be able to apply in your everyday life.

There are 10classes in the course and they’re arranged in 4 sections.

Each class will have a video like this one.

Thevideos are short—at most 10minutes long.

I’m not going to lie—they are short but they're pretty packed.

You might find yourself watching a little at a time or goingback and rewatchingthe same video 2 or even 3 times.

For each class you’ll have an opportunity to practice theideas we covered.

Now thisisn’t school.

You’renot getting homework—andI’m not going to give you grades.

And even I could what difference would it make?

But if you’re serious about it, if you’re serious about building a new way of seeing and understanding the world.

And learning to see and to seize new opportunities,

Do. The. Practice Exercises.

That’s going to help you really learn the ideas.

And I promise: it will be worth it.

Knowing this stuff is going to give you a tremendous advantage in your life.

And we’re hereto help.

If atany time you don’t understand something or you have a question or asuggestion, send us an email at hello@indie.biz

Wewill read it and we will get back to you.

Welcome. I’m excited you’re here.
